In a world where it doesn't matter what's on the inside, you don't want to get caught in a situation where you're eyeliner-less. Dramatic eyes are a huge part of being metal. That and bitchin' pants.

2. THOU SHALT GROW THY HAIR LONG

Rocking out on stage in front of tens of thousands of people just doesn't look as cool with short hair. Hair accents your head movements and, when people are watching you at a festival from 150 metres away, you want them to see that you are putting in 179 per cent!

As drummer for hair metal jokers Steel Panther, Stix Zadinia's playing requires a little flash. As the band prepares for their forthcoming UK tour we sat down with Stix to ask him about his favourite drumming showmen.

What makes a great showman in your opinion?

"My favourite showmen, being the kind of drummer that I am, I'm not a Neil Peart/solo kind of drummer, I like watching drummers hit hard. I like when it's visceral and you can see him hit it and see the swing of their arms and you know that they're beating the s*** out of it because they love what they're doing."

Loud Online is backstage at the House Of Blues in Hollywood, before Steel Panther go out for one of their celebrated House Of Blues Monday night residencies - and we've decided to indulge in some post-post-modern mindfuck questioning.

In the parallel universe Steel Panther inhabit, they are a serious band who've been treading the boards since the eighties, are all in their fifties, have had multiple plastic surgeries and suffer from most venereal diseases. To interview Steel Panther is to enter that world - they don't speak out of character.

Before a recent New York City gig, INKED sat down to interrogate Foxxx and Zadinia about their band, their groupies, and their tattoos. It would be apt to say they are brothers from another mother, including the way they talk about each other’s mothers.

INKED: You guys have played with some pretty famous people on stage: Tom Morello, Paul Stanley, Chester Bennington. Is there anybody you want to jam with? Your musical wet dream?

Stix Zadinia: Do you play?

Drums, recreationally.

Zadinia: Well, I’d like to jam with you.

Excellent. Would we do a two-drum jam?
Zadinia: Yeah, we could do a .38 Special thing.

Well its Thursday, January 12, and I am driving into Vancouver, about an hour into town, the roads are good, and I have my music blaring as usual. STEEL PANTHER is playing tonight at the Commodore Ballroom, it’s a great venue for them to play, good lighting and sound system. So get into town, park, and over I go to the Commodore, get my ticket which was waiting for me as I am reviewing the show, and step inside. There wasn’t too many people waiting outside, I thought it was a SOLD OUT show. Inside of course showed how many people were there. I right away made my way to the front, and was going to stand there to watch this profane and humorous parody of glam metal from the 80’s.

Metal Obsession: [laughs]. That’s awesome man. So you head to Australia for Soundwave Festival in less than two months. Are you excited?

Michael: Ah I am fuckin’ so excited to be coming to Australia that I can’t even tell you. I’m trying not to think about it so much because it’s like Christmas and I just… I don’t wanna keep thinking about it, because, I don’t want to keep thinking about it. It’s like, I’m excited, I wanna go rock Australia. I’ve never been there, so I just wanna go see it, I wanna rock it, I wanna fuckin’ feel it, smell it, touch it, taste it; I wanna do it all!

Vancouver always goes BALLS OUT! This review of Thursday night's show at the Commodore Ballroom from Concert Addicts is proof:

On Thursday night, I was knee-deep in the vulgar, awesomeness that is Steel Panther. Michael Starr, Satchel, Lexxi Foxxx and Stix Zadinia, were rude, crude and above all else, larger than life. It was a perfect set.

When I first entered the venue, I noticed that most of the fans in attendance were in costume. Spandex pants, big hair/mullet wigs and denim, lots and lots of denim. Attending a Steel Panther show is like being transported back to the 80′s. And it is not just some stage show of nostalgia, the crowd is so enthralled that you truly feel the coke-fueled, whore-lined sentiment that used to make concert going a magic experience.

“Well after Stix tweeted it, that was his trip to rehab actually,” Starr reveals. “He’d been up for, I dunno, he says two days, but I think it was 14 days he was up straight. And he was just tweeting – tweaking and tweeting the whole time. It was the perfect time for us, because it gave us time for him to recoup, and to put the finishing touches on Balls Out. Everything worked out. The only bummer is that we didn’t get to play with Van Halen,” he states plaintively.

Modern glam metal mavericks Steel Panther packed fans into Irving Plaza last night, delivering a 90 minute set that was equal parts heavy metal debauchery and stand up comedy.

Following their sold out show at the Gramercy Theatre in October, the band formerly known as Metal Skool once again pulled in a fanatical audience of metalheads, many decked out in fishnets, top hats, and other traditional glam apparel. The band themselves took the stage in brightly colored ripped spandex and wild hairdos, and with shredding guitars and an energetic stage presence, instantly turned the floor into a fist-pumping, devil horn-throwing sea of insanity.

Heavy metal’s back! Comedic hair metal gurus Steel Panther tore through New York City last night (Jan. 4) in a firestorm of lace and debauchery. Although their show is comedic, their talent is very real, and they made the fact well known to the sold out NYC crowd.

Steel Panther fans are passionate for their hair metal heroes. As the crew began to set up the band’s gear, NYC’s Irving Plaza kept the crowd happy by playing some of heavy metal’s most legendary tracks. However, a scene we’ve never witnessed before began to unfold. As Black Sabbath‘s ‘Iron Man,’ blasted through the speakers, the fans actually began chanting ‘Steel Pan-ther!’ OVER the classic Sabbath song. Insane.

It appears with the release of 2011′s “Balls Out,” the boys of Steel Panther have slithered their way out of the obscure and onto the iPod playlists of the Manhattanites who adore the 80s and love to rock out. And if the Canal Room show was their local debut, then last night’s totally sold out blowout performance at Irving Plaza was most certainly their coming out party. At the time of our arrival, classic 80s hair band anthems were blasting over the P.A., while members of the jam packed crowd arrived dressed in full glam regalia, emulating the band they were moments away from seeing.

Death To All But Bacon!

So how are ya doing?

I’m good, man. I’ve been talking to other interviewers and I’m really fired up to come to Australia now. Not that I wasn’t, but talking about it for an hour I’m excited.

Sweet. The side shows with Alter Bridge are going to be pretty cool.

Yeah, man! They asked if we were interested in doing some shows with Alter Bridge and we said ‘absolutely,’ but we didn’t know if they’d be cool with it, even though we’re all friends with those guys. I mean, Alter Bridge is not Steel Panther, and Steel Panther is definitely not Alter Bridge. And I wasn’t sure if they wanted to rock with us, because it’s such a different style of rock. But to hear that we’re doing those Sidewaves, I’m really, really excited because all the guys in that band are really fuckin’ cool.

Here are a couple of kick-ass reviews of Wednesday's sold-out show at the HOB Cleveland from Cleveland's Examiner and Neo Music Scene:

Dubbed the XXXMas show at the Cleveland House of Blues on 12/28/2011 it was extremely safe to say that Steel Panther absolutely killed last night. A sold out venue with wall-to-wall people and alot of different types of people in the crowd, from the older generation to teenagers. From the moment the band took the stage they had the crowd on their side.

The XXX-Mas Show sponsored by Cleveland’s Rock Station WMMS 100.7, kicked off at the House of Blues in Cleveland Last night and what an amazing show it was, the show was officially sold out a month before Show Time, with a vase variety of generations from younger teenagers to older metal heads. It was Clearly a great choice for WMMS to sponsor this show because of the limits they take on the air so why not break those limits with the most sexually active groups in the industry.
